Uwharrie River

The Uwharrie River offers some of the most scenic, remote backcountry paddling in the central North Carolina Piedmont. Winding through the ancient Uwharrie Mountains and Uwharrie National Forest across Randolph and Montgomery counties, it eventually empties into the Pee Dee River at Lake Tillery. Featuring peaceful pools interspersed with gentle Class I slate shoals and minor riffles, it is an ideal waterway for full-day kayak excursions, wilderness wildlife viewing, and quiet recreational floats.
